My good friend, Jonathan Gayles is about to drop a bomb. His documentary, “Black Masculinity in Comics” is set to debut at the International Black Film Festival this fall in Memphis.
I am one of the many contributors in this film. Peep the trailer right quick – but don’t blink, or you’ll miss me, LOL! Now go show Brother Gayles some love.
Synopsis Through interviews with prominent artists, scholars and cultural critics along with images from the comic books themselves, this film examines the degree to which early Black superheroes generally adhered to common stereotypes about Black men. From the humorous, to the offensive, early Black superheroes are critically considered. For more on the film, go here.
