A Real Life Nefertiti

Connie Rice, civil rights advocate, gang truce, Power Concedes Nothing

Connie Rice is an accomplished lawyer, activist, writer and feminist. After graduating from Harvard University, she became a lawyer for the NAACP Legal Defense Fund in Los Angeles, CA. She began to witness incredible disparities in wealth and mental health services, especially for women and children. A strong advocate for women, Rice eventually came to believe that women in blue collar communities could not be helped until men were empowered as well. Rice worked with LA Gangs to maintain gang truces and litigated class action law suits against police misconduct and discrimination. Her new book, POWER CONCEDES NOTHING, chronicles her life and her community work. Women like Connie Rice are the real life inspiration behind Nefertiti.
